Welcome to Pooches Dog Training. My name is Carol Miller, and I help dogs and owners have a happier, more fun relationship, serving the central New Jersey area.

My basic philosophy is that respect and affection between a dog and its owners are the key to a great relationship, and respect can only be built through kindness and fair and consistent treatment, not through intimidation or physical punishment. A relationship is based on two-way communication, and I teach you how to read your dog's signals so that the two of you work together, instead of creating a one-sided approach that essentially means you order and the dog obeys.

With positive, motivating techniques, you can teach your dog to focus on you willingly, to want to please you, and to have fun learning, which makes everything easier.

I am an honors graduate of the Animal Behavior College, and a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers. Animal Behavior College (ABC) is approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education and is an internationally recognized school.  My year long commitment to this program has provided me with a formal education in canine obedience training and understanding behavior and its motives. My certification, education and experience provide me the skills required to effectively and humanely train your dog while keeping alive the spark that makes your dog so special to you. I am committed to ongoing education and attend seminars on cutting edge training techniques and behavior modification whenever I can. My own dog, Dare, a Border Collie rescue, has taught me more than any other training - she came to me with a loving but highly unfocused temperament, and a big problem with other dogs. By using positive techniques, we are continuing to calm her down and make life easier and less scary for her. Big changes in emotional areas take time, but we are doing just fine!

In addition, I volunteer with the Atlantic Region Central Border Collie Rescue and Rogers' Rescues, helping dogs get a second chance at a good home. In support of adoption, I offer a 10% discount if you've adopted your dog or puppy from any shelter or rescue group (documentation required, please).

My goal is to help you be happy with your dog, and for your dog to be happy with you. When you're having problems with your best friend, I will create an individualized program to move you into a new and better relationship with each other.
